Welcome to the Big Bunny Bungalow Blog, we are excited to create a new forum for discussion about life at Big Bunny, aka BBB, where we can share our excitement for the desert, and for this special spa town we are in. I have been out here since before Thanksgiving, enjoying the quiet solitude of Desert Hot Springs, and have been waking early every day, without an alarm, embracing the early morning walks, and the solitude. We are unplugged out here, dealing with a spotty mobile hotspot internet connection and NO TV! Surrounded by books, magazines, and projects, it really is different, and not so bad. I do miss watching Howard TV, and the Food Network, and I'm not sure the zero - tv will go on forever, but it is nice to focus on other things. I have had an influx of visitors out here in the last month, and finally it feels like BBB is getting off the ground! When I look back on the last 6 years since I started this project, I finally feel like it is reaching fruition, and now that the place is at a point where visitors and myself can come and enjoy the retreat, all my hard work of all these years is finally paying off.
A typical day in Spa City: awoke yesterday around 7am. Gathered my camera equipment, computer etc...headed to Starbucks, as I was out of cream. Did the internet rounds, checked FB, gmail etc... then off I went to town to grab some footage of my mother, Donna French - Interior Decorator, Designer, Home Stager and Antique Dealer. She is starting a new staging project in Santa Monica, and was packing the van with the first load of things to try in the space. I am shooting footage of her that may turn into a little documentary down the road. After an hour of shooting there, I headed back up the hill to work on the house, and run some errands. Out here there are daily errands, like running to the post office, talking to the contractor about a fence project, texting the handyman about the rocks and pavers I may do, talking to Bill about buying land in Joshua Tree, thinking about trade marking, and logos, and a sign for the property. So much to do. Trying to launch the BBB. Am in the midst of discussion with various potential renters for Coachella. Started a chicken stock from the cooked chicken I made the other night, and it is divine! So fresh, and simple. The recipe was from the Silver Palette Cook Book. Ran into Nan at the post office, how wonderful is that, to run into your Grandmother in your little cowboy town. You don't run into her in L.A., nor can you ''run" down the street to film your Mother for an hour in L.A. either. These are a few of the advantages to being in a small town.
